5:00 AM - Hotel Pickup in Musanze or Kigali +

Your Rwanda Compass Safari guide picks you up from your hotel in Musanze (30-45 minutes to the park) or Kigali (2.5-3 hours).
If starting from Kigali, a light breakfast snack is provided en route. Drive to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi for registration and briefing.

7:30 AM - Arrival at Kinigi Park Headquarters +

Arrive at the park HQ in Kinigi, where you'll meet your park ranger guide and porters (optional hire, recommended for carrying gear).
Receive a briefing on the chosen hike (Bisoke or Sabyinyo), safety protocols, and what to expect. Group sizes are typically 8 or fewer per trail.
Option to enjoy a short traditional dance performance by local community members before departure.

8:00 AM - Drive to Trailhead & Hike Begins +

Drive to the trailhead for your chosen hike. Begin the ascent through bamboo forests, keeping an eye out for golden monkeys and other wildlife.
As you climb higher, the terrain transitions to alpine meadows, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscapes.

12:00 PM - Summit Experience +

Reach the summit of Mount Bisoke or Sabyinyo. Enjoy panoramic views of the Virunga Mountains and, on clear days, the tri-border region of Rwanda, Uganda, and the DRC.
Take time to rest, capture photos, and soak in the breathtaking scenery.

2:30 PM - Descent & Return +
